FINAL SCORE READS -- Hornyteam 5:2 Green Meadows

SCORERS -- zhiping, kyle (pen), songq X3

HOW THE MATCH WENT --

Green Meadows started the game confidently with their star player weian back in team. Hornyteam however were the one to get the first shot out; a kenbang's tonjoe was parried away by Green Meadow's keeper joehan, to which junhao blasted over with his follow up. The first goal did arrive soon after, a delwyn's long throw caused confusion within the Green Meadow's penalty box and amidst the crowd it was zhiping who reacted first, glancing the ball into the net with the back of his head. one nil to Hornyteam and the second ever headed goal in zhiping's career.

Hornyteam then assumed control of the game, with ivan and zhiping both having goes from the left flank. Green Meadows though were blessed by joehan's heroics, and soon bit hornyteam back with a soft penalty. a slight push from neng provoked a dramatic fall from green meadow's number 14, to which the resulting spot kick was cooly converted by weian. But of course, what goes around comes around: Hornyteam got their justice back when an incisive through ball from nicholas sent kayun clear on goal, and joehan, who've now came out field, brought kayun down with a desperate two footed lunge from behind, leaving the referee with no choice but to point at the spot. the penalty was not to be missed by kayun, and Hornyteam restored their lead till half time.

The second half started with Hornyteam carrying on from where they've left behind. kayun was in guilt of missing several chances, the first one was when he'd rounded the keeper with an open goal at his mercy, the overly confident striker decided to send a tame shot which Green Meadow defender scrambled back just in time to clear off the line; the second time a cheeky back flick from zhiping presented kayun a great chance inside the six yard box, and despite doing well to side-step the last man, his shot went dismally wide to the relieve of the stranded keeper. Relishing their luck and Hornyteam's inefficiency, Green Meadows equalised against the run of play. a counter attack saw Green Meadow's number 13 sprinting pass max and despite attempt from kangchiat to unsettle him, the player made no mistake to score with an audacious chip.

Hornyteam remained upbeat, and their fighting spirit was eventually rewarded. A floated corner from zhiping was met by songq who rose the highest to thump the ball into the net. The hulk was then pushed forward as hornyteam searched to extend their lead, and it didnt take long for him to score his second, seizing on a defensive error from Green Meadows to make it four two. The defender turned striker even found time to complete his hat trick, a quick throw in from zhiping down the left caught Green Meadows unguarded, to which songq finished expertly with a classic striker turn. five two and Hornyteam welcomed their first win since 2007.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE --

kangchiat : basically a spectator throughout. was unlucky to concede the penalty (he did dive towards the correct direction). couldnt really do much too for the 2nd goal.

max : on the ball was okay, but defensive wise, need some sprinting training perhaps?

neng : had a disciplined game, has done well to call for offsides and was largely immaculate except for the push which resulted in opponents' first goal.

songq : didnt have the best of games defensively, however he has more than made up for it with a late hat trick. once again his pace, power and strength was put into good use.

ivan : played well generally, overlapping like there's no tml. still tend to dribble himself into trouble at times.

junhao : the younger brother of ivan was the surprise package of the day. fearless (a commando) yet skillful (probably learnt his trade from ivan), he's got no problem merging into the team but of course his final ball can still be improved.

kenbang : held the midfield well and kept the game flowing. NDU.

nicholas : had a mixed debut, is capable of delivering delightful passes (one of which created kayun's pen) but he'll probably need to hold the ball better as he tends to lose possession rather easily.

delwyn : played in three different positions today and was hardworking as usual. glad to see that his dealing with first ball has improved, must be those badminton sessions!

zhiping : showed some cute touches and controls. most importantly he did deliver the goods (1 times goal and 2 times assists).

kayun : bulldozing and intimidating as usual, but he'd probably left his scoring boots at home. did score a penalty though and will be hoping for better next time.

junrong : an assured debut. his passing style means he'll always suit our game play, but apparently the NSF has got less stamina than his ORD-ed counterparts, hmmm.

VERDICT --

a win finally. once again three cheers to the debutants, the theory has never gone wrong! on a slightly more serious note, its nice to see that the team is playing passing once again, and yes i hope we'll be building on this and for now i shall happily announce that Hornyteam is still alive and kicking.

background info:
traditional powerhouse (or not) Hornyteam is on the verge of disbanding after several dismal performances ever since the turn of the year. the main problem lies in conflicted opinions between players, as well as new commitments from individual team members due to their respective creepy natures. team manager Ivna has opted for a reshuffle though the effects remain to be seen. thus it came no better opportunity than now for us to welcome Green Meadows, whose challenge has arrived just in time to clean the air and clear our doubts.
